"The au-pair system allows young people to experience life and improve their language skills in their host country."

We place hundreds of young people, both male and female as au-pairs each year. They live as part of the host family and are treated as an older son or daughter with appropriate responsibilities. They receive full board, their own bedroom and pocket money.

For many families where the parents are at work and have children at part time day care or in school, an au-pair may be the solution for the extra cover required.

If the family have a baby or toddler and one parent is at home full time, an au-pair is the extra pair of hands often needed when you cannot find the time to do everything personally. Please note that an au-pair should never be left in sole charge of your baby.

I am also aware of the problems that au-pairs may encounter living in a stranger's home, speaking an unfamiliar language and initially, being homesick.

I believe that all parties should be made aware of their rights, obligations and responsibilities from the outset. Communication is vital.

Some frequently asked questions :-

Q. Is there a "better" country to accept au-pairs from ?
A. No, definitely not. Being willing and helpful is not a national trait.

Q. Is any age more preferable ?

A. No. It is a matter of personal preference. The Au-pair Agency accepts applicants who are between 18 and 27. The younger applicants must have completed their secondary education.

Q. Why are you suggesting a male au-pair ?

A. In some families a male is more suitable, given the after-school care required with boisterous youngsters.
