Mutual understanding and
co-operation between the au-pair and the host family is essential for
a successful relationship.
Tensions may develop as the two parties get to
know one another, this is a natural process at the beginning of any
relationship. Both the parents and the au-pair should work cooperatively
to achieve a balanced approach especially with regard to the child/children
whos care and nurture becomes a mutual responsibility.
The au-pair will take his/her lead from the parents and always seek
to carry out the instructions they have given. At the same time the
parents should listen to the au-pair, if he/she raises concerns.
Children need a stable caring environment. The au-pair and the parents
must agree on critical issues and present a consistent approach towards
the children.
